For spectral analyses:
You can't see the micro-gaps, indicative of MP3/ATRAC source, unless you look at a 2-second or-so gap.

If you look at the entire song, for example, you only see the cut-off freq and not the level of detail necessary to differentiate between FM and MP3/ATRAC, for example, or even between FM and cassette, though that is easier based on cut-off freqs.
